Hi

I'm in the middle of putting together a new desktop box and was planning to use an AMD Ryzen 5 5600G CPU. From looking at a couple of threads recently I see that some of you have had problems with their amdgpu's. Towo even pointed to a kernel bugzilla that may or may not been resolved yet. I'm not sure if the bug is for regular installs or for those installs inside VM's.

Can I get some feedback from those of you who own amdgpu's? I've been using the open radeon graphics with an older radeon card without problems, should I be wary of the 5600G?

Thanks in advance
Tom

Hi @GoinEasy9,

I am not sure, if my posting is of any value for you.
Since some month I use a Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q Gen 2 Tiny PC and I am fully satisfied.

Greetings,

towo

At the moment, there is a problem in upstream kernel 5.14.15+ and 5.15 with RyzenG systems, but in siduction, i have reverted that relevant commit and have reported that problem in kernel bugzilla. Now i have to wait, what is going on.

Thanks samoht
An inxi of an existing system is always helpful.

Thanks towo
I guess I'll hold off on the amdgpu for a bit. I had a hell of a time finding a motherboard who's bios didn't need to be upgraded for the 5600G, I should have sensed something was off and investigated further. Appreciate you posting the link to the kernel bugzilla.

Thank you whistler_mb

I'm still investigating the 5600G. Today NewEgg dropped the price to USD $229.00, so I'm tempted but weary. Thanks for your inxi of your system, it puts a plus one with the amdgpu. A similar system build that's Intel based is going to run me $200 more, so, I'm still looking.

Thanks again

Thanks for sharing, @GoinEasy9.  Thumbsup for your new machine

Yes, thanks.  Nice machine!

My trusty HP 350 laptop from 2014 is dying -- wifi is getting flaky and the lid cannot be closed because I had to reinforce one of the corners last year to keep it from breaking off.

I'm getting a new laptop designed to run linux from System76. It comes with their Pop! OS but I don't expect that to last long.   ;D
