I am a bit lost now. I cannot even remove libreoffice at the moment as that forces me to do the --fix-broken first.
Any ideas are appreciated.

The error message says it all:

> trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/libreoffice/share/.registry/hsqldb.xcd',
> which is also in package libreoffice-sdbc-hsqldb (4:24.8.5-1)

They put the same file into two different packages. I suggest you
wait a couple of hours, it'll dawn on them...

I don't understand why they never try the installation prior to publication,
it's such an easy test!

Yes, but not for the sake of this command but rather for the update which happened in the
meantime (a couple of hours later, as predicted...):

ii  libreoffice-sdbc-hsqldb   4:24.8.5-1 amd64 embedded HSQLDB SDBC driver for LibreOffice vs.
ii  libreoffice-sdbc-hsqldb   4:24.8.5-2 amd64 embedded HSQLDB SDBC driver for LibreOffice
