Hello,

yesterday I started to set up some stuff to port the kubuntu packaging of kde frameworks (it could be called KDE 5, but it doesn't have that name).

You can check the progress here:
https://gitorious.org/siduction-kde-kf5

There isn't any estimated time of arrival to siduction's kdenext. All I can say for now is that probably it won't be co-installable with your current kde sc 4 and it would be available as an optional "bleeding edge" thing only for the people willing to use it, so when it's somewhat useable you would have to add a line like this one to your sources.list:

deb http://packages.siduction.org/kdenext kde-frameworks main

It won't be available in kdenext/unstable until it's mature enough.

Cheers.

orinoco

Can you describe the planned transition from KDE 4 to KDE 5 in Siduction?

hi, is there any news now that kde5 has been released...? :)

@Santa: I didn't check out the source, i'm lazy and i know it. i would like to know if it will install in /usr or in /opt right now. I know kubuntu sets up both options (with different sources however).

Talking about siduction's strategy about KF5, shouldn't it be tied with Debian's strategy? I mean: I love Santa's work, but I would deeply prefer to see KDE on Debian in a better shape. I am not able to contribute directly (i filled some bugs report and that's all i did), so I won't complain. But I stress on this because with such massive transition we shoud focus on upgrade path from KDE4 > KF5 and I am wondering if a better solution could be working more with Debian's kde team, and I am saying this without knowing anything about the status of collaboration between Siduction and Debian-KDE-team, if any.

I love siduction because it is fully sid compatible (I tried solydk, tanglu and others, but siduction IS my OS choice!) and i fear to lose this assumption.

Anyway, Santa you (and all the siduction team, of course!) are true hero(es)!

Given that freeze happens in November, I doubt it that Jessie will have KF5. Our plans right now is to let the dust settle and ship kde 4.14 with our next release in August (hopefully). 4.14 will be a mixture of qt 4 and qt 5 apps. KF5 for siduction is planned for later in 2014.

ok, that's for "normal" release.

but there is already an "extra" repo with kf5. will be there a sort of extra repo, something like the kde-next?
a way to have a stable and official release with kde 4, and an experimental and unsupported repo for who want to try kde 5?

;)

the repo il already there, I wanted to know if it'a updated, if there is a "roadmap", if it's quite usable or not yet...

thanks!

Is this true? There will be
- Kde4 providing qt5-Apps
- kf5 providing kde4
?? I lost track of all the numbers and new naming ...

Wrote this a couple days ago: https://www.computerbase.de/2014-07/kde-sc-4-wird-mit-version-4.14-im-august-abgeschlossen/ (sorry, it's in DE)
,,KDE Applications 14.12" in your article:
Does it mean kde-4.14-December Release or kde-4/5.14-December ?
experiencing siduction runs better than my gentoo makes me know I know nothing

KDE Applications 14.12 will be a mixture of qt 4 and qt 5 based applications, KDE 4.14 will be qt 4 only.

Hi,

there is a very unmature version of KDE Frameworks and Plasma 5 packaging based on Kubuntu's packaging, where I have been working as a volunteer the latest few weeks. Regarding the gitorious repositories, the latest packaging code wasn't pushed there yet, perhaps I will disconiue them, since I'm not sure yet if it's worth it having git repos for siduction (given the changes are very small compared with kubuntu's packaging), in any case you can follow my activities in kubuntu here:
https://code.launchpad.net/~panfaust/+merges
and the general activity of kubuntu's frameworks and plasma 5 packaging here:
https://launchpad.net/kubuntu-packaging-next

You have here instructions to install Plasma 5, please read them carefully:

I'm using Plasma 5 adding others repos from kdeframework. I think that is a good idea update this topic because, IMHO, the siduction repo os better that a ppa in lauchpad. Do you have some idea or plan to update siduction to KDE 5.1? Thank you by your great job and support. Bests, Claudio

Your probably not getting any replies because of 2 major factors

1. Adding others repos

2. Mentioning ppa (assuming mixing)

Both are unsupported and kills rats in lab tests, so, basically your on your own.

Make sense.

Still, i'm not use ppa and have only unstable/experimental from debian and siduction.

deb http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free
deb http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian experimental main contrib non-free
deb http://ftp.br.debian.org/debian-multimedia unstable main non-free

# Desktop KDE Next

deb http://packages.siduction.org/kdenext kde-frameworks main

# Desktop LXQt
deb http://packages.siduction.org/lxqt unstable main

# Apache OpenOffice

Humm... taking a look in the repository, i saw that the kdeframework-exp[1] is the repository updated in 16/sep, but i'm not sure if is the best place to use.

Maybe someone from siduction can help in this questions. Someone?
