Umzug des Forums / Relocation of the Forum

Wegen anhaltender Fehler mit der Datenbank des Forums, die im derzeitigen Webhosting nicht zu debuggen sind, ziehen wir demnächst das Forum auf unseren Server bei LinuxNews um. Zunächst startet morgen auf einer anderen Domain ein Test, um zu sehen, ob der Fehler auch dort auftritt. Zudem gilt es, eine sichere Nginx-Konfiguration zu erstellen. Der Tag des Umzugs steht noch nicht fest, findet aber nachts statt, sodass nur wenige User eine Downtime erfahren. Wir melden uns, wenn alles umgezogen ist.

Due to ongoing issues with the forum's database that cannot be resolved on our current web hosting platform, we will soon be migrating the forum to our server at LinuxNews. First, we'll run a test tomorrow on a different domain to see if the issue occurs there as well. We also need to set up a secure Nginx configuration. The exact date of the migration has not yet been determined and will take place at nighttime (GMT+2). Visitors from other time zones might experience some downtime. We'll let you know once everything has been moved.

Thanks for the info ... and your efforts! I noticed many and growing connection problems to the forum within the last weeks and to me it sounds like they are a result of the database issues. Thanks to all the people committing to the neccessary works. Good luck ... for all of us.

You are right about database issues. The problem is that on a webspace you only have very limited ways of debugging.

Fingers crossed that this server move will resolve the constant issues with the database. Have you also considered moving to another forum software such as phpBB?

We are quite confident the move will take care of the issue. If not, it's time to go looking for different software.

We plan to move the forum to its new home on Sunday, May 17 around noon. We don't expect any problems and it should be a quick move. But you never know until it's done. The new server, where it resides next to LinuxNews, will be a RS 16000 G12 ip 12M.

Wir planen, das Forum am Sonntag, dem 17. Mai, gegen Mittag an seinen neuen Standort zu verlegen. Wir rechnen nicht mit Problemen, und der Umzug sollte zügig vonstattengehen. Aber man weiß ja nie, bis es soweit ist. Der neue Server, auf dem es neben LinuxNews untergebracht ist, wird ein RS 16000 G12 ip 12M sein.

Sieht aus, als ob der Umzug schon heute vollzogen wurde. Fehlt mir nur noch der Darkmode.

Nein, das war erst mal als Vorbereitung das Update von der legacy auf die aktuelle Version. Darkmode wird brauchen, dafür müssen wir erst noch passende Themes finden. Die alten funktionieren nicht mehr.

Für den Dark-Mode kann man sich bis dahin mit dem Browser-Plug-in 'Dark Reader' behelfen.

Der Umzug findet erst morgen statt. Wir haben lediglich als Vorbereitung die Forensoftware aktualisiert.

Looks good on my end...no more database connection issues. Updating to the latest version of the forum software ought to be helpful too. Even though some things like themes may break perhaps there's new themes out there that will be close to the old one.

Any plugins the old version used may need update or an alternative.

So far no database errors but this default theme is very hard on the eyes. No alternative currently either.

DarkReader works for me - I think I'd turned it off for the old site since there was a dark mode already there, so I got confused that everything was blazing out on the new site until I saw that DarkReader was off for the site (same URL, different destination) and switched it back again.

I did not know about DarkReader. Indeed, it does a great job on this forum. Other websites with data entry windows, I get white text on white background ,... ooops, Thanks anyway!
