cheers.

nouveau will of course be included, nvidia driver cannot be on the iso, but maybe we find a way to ease the process for the user.

Thanks, devil. I will appreciate too. The users are confronting problems to install it.If it comes by default make it easier and drag many new users at all.
cheers.

I don't see the problem of using nouveau or binary-blob.

dear towo,
I agree with you. But the installation It's painfull for the new users. How about to be included by default? or a script to install it? This will drag a lot of many users.
cheers.

Painfull? Where?
Nouveau is used by default, the user has nothing to do for using it.
Nvidia is easyest installed by

apt-get install nvidia-glx

I can't see any painfull thing.
Using Nouveau after using binary blob is

apt-get purge $(dpkg -l | awk '/nvidia/{print $2}') && rm -f /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf and a reboot.

what about the xorg 1.11? I have read many complaints about it. After the distr-upgrade the nvidia card won't work again.
cheers.

Since nvidia blob does not support this xserver version, there is nothing, what a distro can do here.

New Nvidia driver with added support for xserver ABI 11 (xorg-server 1.11). View this link at http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/linux-display-amd64-275.28-driver-uk.html
cheers.

This driver does not work correct, as you can read here:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=166025

And btw, this version is not in debian and it has a lower versionnumber than the recent friver in debian.
And again for clarifying, including the binray blob in the iso is not possible.

Perhaps it  would be nice, if the installer detects nvidia card, opens a link to the manual or wiki with a easy to use installation guide. Also it would be nice to install all the firmware from non-free, if it is the ethernet which is needed, a description how to get the needed firmware would be fine.
libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental should be installed with nouveau. Or is it the wrong packet?

hefee

I am on the other side, want to have as much free software than possible :) And many nVidia graphic cards works with nouveau, so why a distro should install the prop. driver? And only if people are using nouveau this can get better...

Am I right, that fw-detect does the magic with all the firmware, maybe this programm should learn about nVidia graphic cards...

Lanzi

I agree with hefee. I own a new laptop since two weeks with nnvidia (unfortunatly). Nouveau seems to work fine (exept for the actual xorg problems).

dieres

I agree to hefee too, have all my Nvidia running with nouveau because I dont need 3d.  I dont expect any problems after every kernel update as I was expecting with nvidia driver.
But I think we should the User choosing the Driver and give him good advise
how to do it and what the consequences are.

Hi,

drivers under a free licence are nice.

But some PCs don't work very well with the combination Nvidia Card and Nouveau.

KDE with full support of effects only work proper with Nvidia Driver

A proper display of fonts, also higher font size is better with Nvidia Driver than with Nouveau.

With the first release of siduction I'll give Nouveau another try.

With best regards,
 Holger
