trying to install siduction 12.1 rc kde on my 'garage computer' from usb flash drive,

and boot sequence stops at:

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
(initramfs)_

what am i doing wrong?

devil

If we'd know, what 'garage computer' exactly is, we might be able to give an answer. Oh, and tell us, how you got the image on the stick.

'garage computer' is a computer in the garage. i nstalled siduction with a dvd instead...then uninstalled it because siduction doesn't support wifi.

devil

Please, if you do not want support, don't bother. if you do, please give us the specs of your hardware, so we can assist you.

my glass ball says, you have an ATI graphics card....
And yes, siduction does support wifi. Otherwise you could not read me.

turborat

problem solved. i put w7 in the 'garage computer'. linux has a long way to go.

devil

You are quite amusing. Thanks for the fish. :)

i'm not trying to be amusing. i've used linux sytems for years and they used to be good, but now it seems that linux is undergoing a degenerating process. everyone & his mother wants to throw together a 'distro' as fast as they can and they're all garbage. it would not surprise me if you guys are secretly working for ms, with the objective of ruining linux.

devil

You are obviously trolling or completely clueless.
After using linux for years, you would not ask what was wrong with your PC without adding any facts about the used hardware. Everyone using forums or IRC learns that straight away. kthxxbye.

This clueless statement reveals a lot about

(a) ignorance of the current state of Gnu/Linux
(b) ignorance of Debian and its distros and derivatives
(c) including siduction

And that's the last of today's troll food for me.

Hello Ferdinand, hello dibl,

in case of this post it seems, that turborat wants to troll.

But appart from that one point is true: Some wireless cards are not supported out of the box. And yes, it has to to with debian's way to handle all software stuff, which isn't free.

On my TP R500 this means:
- finding out the right frimware package on my desktop PC
- put this on my USB stick
- starting siduction live media
- installing firmware deb from USB stick on live system
- rmmod wlan driver && modprobe wlandriver
- then my wlan card is active
- then starting installation process of siduction

On my TP R500 with OpenSUSE it means:
- booting from installation media, the integrated firmware activates my Wlan card
- starting installation

I have no problem with szenario one but can understand, when peolpe prefer after such experience distributions with all firmware stuff integrated.

Kind regards,
 Holger

That's why you should have an ethernet cable at hand to install as we did In_Former_Times (TM).

Hi Holger and Horo,

Sure, but even if your ethernet chip is broken, and your wifi chip needs proprietary firmware, it is not a big problem to install siduction or any other Debian OS:

The answer is just one google search away.  And now for Broadcom it is also on our forum!   :)

The original poster most probably spent his linux days comfortably numb at Ubuntu. now he was exposed to real linux that did not suit him. Should have just packed his bag and left, but he felt the need to tell us we know nothing. That did not work well for him. Shit happens.
