I have trouble with locking the session in kde 4.8.3. Neither the kdemenu entry nor ALT+CTR+L is working since 2 days.

Bequimão

same here. But I have kde sc 4.7.4 installed.

Does KDE need xlockmore to lock the screen?

@towo, that could be a workaround ...
Following Grässlin Blog I remember he worked on screen locking. This bug seems to be related to the transission kde 4.7-to-4.8 (Gentoo kde4.8 works).
I just purged all I could having a version number 4.7.4 (python-kde). Just in a moment I reboot to try to reproduce this bug.

Arrrgh,
it works for me locking the screen by:
- Ctrl+Alt+L
- classic menu

I should have tested this before purging
plasma-scriptengine-python
python-kde4

I cannot reproduce this bug even after reinstall of python-kde4, but I do not use
- siduction fixes
- a screensaver
- no special plasma apps

It did work before without xlockmore:
 Installed: (none)
 Candidate: 1:5.31-1.1

Workaround is xlock ... but not fixing the problem.

@se7en, you can try
- as a new user (.kde profile!)
- purge python-kde4 - login - reinstall as I did
- purge as much kde-4.7 as possible
A good start is knowing aptitude for such a purpose.

If you do this systematically you could find the bug!
