Last thing I thought they would do ... but it is never to late to learn.

I need skype for work and downloaded the skype-debian_4.0.0.7-1_amd64.deb from
http://www.skype.com/intl/en/get-skype/on-your-computer/linux/

installing via dpkg -i skype-debian_4.0.0.7-1_amd64.deb worked without any trouble. It replaced the old 2 point something version.

Hi @se7en,

hmm, and it's not April 1st :-)

Thanks for this message, I'll try new version of skype today.

Kind regards,

I switched back to the old 2.x version. I had too many instances where i could either not be seen or heard. I could fix the 'not heard' in phonon settings, but the 'not seen' stayed a problem after reconnects, even though in the test I can see myself and the cam (Logitech 720p) showed a green light.

Installed 64-bit on my desktop rig (KDE) and it works fine.  Installed 32-bit on my  Toshiba NB205 netbook (LXDE) and I've got speakers and video, but the mic isn't hooking up.  This is typical -- it will work with headphones, but I've never gotten the internal mic to work (if it even has one).

QuoteI switched back to the old 2.x version.
I also use Google-Talk with video.. which works great.
I do keep a Skype 2 as a Back Up communicator and it works without flaws.
So, Unless Skype 4 presents me with some Must Have improvements, I can see no reason to upgrade..

Hello,

sometimes it should help to use pulseaudio, if some micro and other audio stuff don't work properly with skype.

But I don't want to annimate people here to use pulseaudio because of a piece of proprietary software :-)

Kind regards,
 Holger
