Please give option to choose keyboard layout and variant

I choose (and prefer) English as my system language which is not my native language but is my native one in computer-land as I'm used to its terminology. So Siduction's not supporting my native language isn't an issue for me.

BUT I use a non-US, non-standart keyboard and at this point installing and using Siduction becomes a big pain in the ---.

First I need to enter as my user name this:
111111

Then I need to enter as my password this:
222222

Why? Because I can't type (for example) "tablet". When I type "t", some other letter gets entered and so on.

All right, I could install Siduction as 111111 with the password 222222. Now I'll change my keyboard layout with this command:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

But how? I'm unable to type what I want to type. So as a workaround I've launched the web browser and went to Siduction page, found this part of the command:

dpkg-reconfigure

(in http://forum.siduction.org/index.php?topic=2374).

Coppied and pasted that part into the terminal. Then (being unable to use the keyboard) with zillion of mouse clicks in wikipedia I've found the other words necessary to enter the rest of that command, that is, "keyboard" and "configuration".

Coppied and pasted those words (that is, "keyboard-configuration") into the terminal as well and at last I was able to use Siduction RazorQt, but then encountered other issues and come back to Lubuntu.

Now I'm willing to try once again (the fourth time) as you're about to release a new RazorQt version, BUT PLEASE provide us with these steps at the begining of the installation (like some other distros do) to choose independently:

    The language
    The locale/time zone
    The keyboard layout
    The keyboard layout variant

Sincerely...

The language
The locale/time zone
The keyboard layout

can be chosen at boot time with F keys
Your language/layout isn't supported ?
maybe this can be changed in future, please post which language/layout you need.

Would be nice to learn about the other issues you encountered, too. Unreported problems rarely get solved.

The complete commands for locale and keyboard configuration in text terminal [Crtl] + [Alt] + [F1] as standard in Debian are:
Login as root

dpkg-reconfigure locales
dpkg-reconfigure console-setup
dpkg-reconfigure console-data
dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

When I tried this in a graphical terminal long ago, the configurations did not keep permanent.

I remember that I installed razor-qt in brazilian Portuguese with a German keyboard. Every time after reboot I had to reconfigure the keyboard in the graphical environment, probably a bug. This installation now is gone, never planned to use it constantly, only for a first look.

Thanks for the reply. Can't recall how Siduction behaves by pressing F keys at boot time to set the layout map, but in some other distros (like Sabayon) this does not change layout really, i.e. afterwards, during installation it reverts back to its original layout.

I may try the next time, but you're not against, hopefully, to implement such an innocent and reasonable, basic feature?! Ease of ability to choose layout including the variant?

Sorry about mentioning the other issues without saying anything, but I really can't remember exactly (having tried a few distros consecutively). The major (or maybe the only) one, I guess, was the inability (maybe on my part) to automount my USB drive which contains my home.

Well, the keyboard layout in question is Turkish F variant.

the F2 and F3 keys settings at boot time of the live image are honoured during installation. And the 'basic feature' you ask for can be quite tricky to implement, as I remember.

All right, I'll try those keys the next time, but just for the curiosity, Debian Wheezy itself implements that basic feature I ask for. Semplice tries it (with a beautiful graphical app) but fails at this (alpha or beta) point.

Anyway, if it's as easy as pressing an F key quickly or very quickly, I apologize.

Well, you still have to change your keyboard-layout after install (see post above)

Have installed again and well, it doesn't matter if it's honoured or not as there's no option to choose the keyboard variant. The default (tr) is trq. But... see below.

Changing the layout (and the variant) after the installation solves the problem. That is, the new layout (and the variant) is honoured once I change it after the installation. No need to re-change it on every boot.

Thanks for your efforts. Siduction is likeable (now) :)
