Skype problems in 32 bit kde

Hi I have been using skype a lot lately ringing family overseas, and resorting to Debian. kubuntu, or koroora as they do it well with pulse audio. The mike does not work in siduction, despite some feedback stuff and despite configuring kmix to the nth degee.
Makes me want pulse audio in siduction but it too is hard to install properly on its own.
I wonder if there is a good alternative to the now MS skype.
There is a bit of missing firmware in siduction on my dual core intel box perhaps it is this goodness knows.

Skype works fine here with KDE without configuring anything extra for sound. Just pick the right device in systemsettings and tghen make sure the mic works in the settings of skype. No firmware involved.

I recently had some sound issues and I was frustrated so I decided to install pulseaudio.  It seems to be working for me so far.  It wasn't hard to install.  If I can do it, you can. :-)

I'm using xfce at the moment but I don't see why DE would matter in this case.  I understand sound can be a major hassle in linux.  I hope I don't ultimately come back to say this and that isn't working.

I don't think devil is looking forward to any feedback after I try the headset.

I highly recommend a different distro.   There's no support with this one.   They're all happy with their own configuration.  

Also, the forum still doesn't work properly.

I continue to have sound issues and using pulseaudio is a trainwreck.  

At least, some people in Debian respond sometimes.

Everything works well, apparently.

I spent hours on it.  Skype 'recommends' pulseaudio so I installed that after having numerous issues using ALSA.

I also tried the same setup in Mepis 12.  Same thing.  

I booted up a live version of Kubuntu 12.10 and after installing flash, adding the i386 architecture (then installing ia32-libs-multiarch etc) and trying various settings in kmix/sound settings, it worked.

I had working sound.  I think I spent 20 or so minutes on it.

Such snarky comments are not welcome, not needed, and help no one.  This forum is for helping people, not spewing venomous insults and insinuations.  If you have factual information that can actually help someone, write them down, please.  If you have a reproducible bug that you can describe in detail, so the development team can fix it, please provide the necessary details about the hardware, software, and conditions under which the bug can be triggered.  If you simply don't like siduction, then you can leave and use your unnamed "different distro".  Bottom line -- stop with the snark.  Color yourself warned.

           why are you so hostile to a little experimenting to make siduction work without feedback that alsa gives. Pulse audio done properly is not a train wreck.
Leave this thread alone and don't be so possessive.
Debian says if you break it you get to keep both halves. It is caveat emptor and nothing else. Lighten up guys for goodness sake.

I have used only pulseaudio for 2+ years, and I use skype almost daily.  My post above has nothing to do with pulseaudio or skype.

It was my bad.  It would be nice if there was more immediate feedback on more occasions in the IRC room, though.  Am I not allowed to wish for that?

Elzorro, I was able to get my headset and mic to fully work but I am using siduction xfce.  I installed pulseaudio and there's a ton of settings to change or it seemed like it at first.  

Did you get yours to work?

I'm also more familiar with the skype install.  'Done it a few times now.

It has to do with someone who basically has 33 posts (as of my post) of wining and complaining and calling siduction pretty much useless compared to other distro's

I had sound working with the headset until a reboot.  Just wondering whether I should use up time filing a bug report or asking anyone on here whether they think iceweasel crashing and pulseaudio volume not working qualifies.  Also, if you can see on the image, the error message from vlc.  I didn't change anything, I just reboot the machine and tried to use my headset.
