Thank you for providing siduction-13.1.0-lxde-amd64.iso. Seems to be a nice piece of work. Congratulations.

Would like to boot in openbox instead of lxde. Is there a bootcode, something like 'desktop=openbox' (which doesn't work!). Found that you can logout and then choose openbox but I would like to avoid that detour.

Thank you for attention.

try fluxbox, it's an openbox replacement (It's me preferred DE).
Ok, you can't code, but you still might be able to write a bug report for Debian's sake

Thank you for reaction.

Agree that fluxbox is not bad but it is not available on the  siduction-13.1.0-lxde-amd64 liveCD, whereas openbox is.

My last build,(siduction-13.1.0-firestarter-kde-amd64-201305230158.iso) fluxbox is no longer an option, it can be easily installed and I guess to build with also.

I do remember some builds back seeing

## eventually obsolete or false at this place
   # fluxbox
   # devel-debian

But my question is about 'openbox'. It is available in siduction-13.1.0-lxde-amd64.iso and I just would like to know how to boot into it instead of in the default lxde.

Thank you.

You need to set it in your login manger slim by editing /etc/slim.conf. There is a list of sessions and you need to move openbox in the first spot.

Sorry, didn't know fluxbox is gone. That's a pitty, as I always use it.
OTOH, openbox would be as usable for me as fluxbox is.

@ joji
If available as piper stated, it should be selectable in one of the submenues in the login screen (I don't know whether lxde uses kdm, gdm or lightdm as login manager, but anyways, that's where you look for the DE you want to start).

EDIT://
Ah, as I see just now, devil posted the solution ... and I was wrong as slim is used.  :oops:

But if slim allows to change DE only by reconfiguration, it seems worth to replace it with one of the above (I use kdm with fluxbox  :wink: )

The only way to change is to choose at boot time at the login manager. I have tried them all and find lightdm to be best for me and I regularly change between Openbox,E17 and i3. The latest version of lightdm has a dropdown list to make your choice, which it now remembers.

Excuse me, but standard LXDE uses the Openbox wm. You do not need to change anything to use Openbox.

First of all, would like to thank everyone who tried to help.

But is appears my question was not clear enough : I am using this liveCD (siduction-13.1.0-firestarter-lxde-amd64-201305202209.iso) as liveCD on several computers and my aim is to have the lightest system possible (with X) based on  siduction.

@devil
You are right!
There is indeed a list of sessions (default,startxfce4,openbox,ion3,icewm,wmaker,blackbox,awesome), but I can not move openbox in the first spot because I am working with the LiveCD. I am looking for the bootcode / cheatcode which has the same effect.
Your advice would solve the problem when dealing with a system installed on hard disk.

@michaa
"it should be selectable in one of the submenues in the login screen"
Are you sure? Have been looking at 'grub.cfg' en 'syslinux.cfg' and other configfiles but didn't find any option to choose 'openbox'.

@titan
"The only way to change is to choose at boot time at the login manager"
Agree 100% but please tell me how to do it. I don't see any option allowing me to choose 'openbox'.

@timc
"but standard LXDE uses the Openbox wm. You do not need to change anything to use Openbox."
Again : fully agree with you. But my aim is not to use LXDE, only 'openbox'.
Kindly see my first mail : "Found that you can logout and then choose openbox but I would like to avoid that detour."

Thank you.

you can use a persistant install on a usb stick. there you can either remove lxde or set slim.conf, like I said. The manual shows you how to do it: http://manual.siduction.org/en/hd-install-opts-en.htm#fromiso-persist

Nice idea! Thank you very much. Will try ...

So there is no special bootcode allowing booting immediately into 'openbox'

Thank you.
