Is libcupsdriver1 obsolete?

looks like :) Normally all libs that are getting removed via du are ok (especially if the packages are all part of one source package - in this case: cups).

Hello,

there is a problem with new cups 1.6.2. On my siduction firestarter all cups stuff is installed in version 1.5 but on a fresh siduction firestarter on pc of my wife there is the new version 1.6.2 and on this system the printer of my NAS is not found and printing isn't possible.

Be careful with a DU.

Kind regards,
 Holger

further info:

On my system the same behavior after a DU, my NAS printer isn't found anymore.

Any hints?

Thanks and kind regards,
 Holger

what kind of protocol do you use to communicate to your NAS printer? ipp, lpr, dnssd,...?

@holgerw
Maybe you run into this bug
apt-listbugs list cups-client

Hello @hendrikL,

thanks for this hint, I'll hope with a DU in a few days this error will be gone.

On my PC I install a Debian 7.0.0 as second system, so I can handle such a situation in a better way.

Kind regards,
 Holger

Are there other problems with cups or "only" those mentioned by Holger (network printer not available)? Those users not using cups network printing, can they go ahead?
Ok, you can't code, but you still might be able to write a bug report for Debian's sake

@all

tryapt-get update && apt-get install smbclientcups support for IPP was renewed. Hope, that helps....

Hello @ab,

thanks for your hint but it doesn't help, printing about a networkprinter is not possible.

Kind regards,
 Holger

Today I was successful installing a network HP P1606dn printer on a laptop that has wifi only connection.  This printer requires the foo2zjs driver so it is a long installation ritual with hp-lip, hp-check, the driver installation, and CUPS, but it is now printing its CUPS test page.  I used IPP printing, and set the URL to socket://198.162.1.13:9100.  The host computer is siduction/KDE updated today, and laptop is the same.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

I ran into the same trap these days. I installed system-config-printer-kde and started systemsettings as root. Under hardware there will be a new entry for printer configuration. When adding a new printer also printers on the local network are found and connected to socket://198.162.xxx.xxx:9100. That did it for me on an up-to-date siduction laptop and desktop.
