Edit: netbook-plasma works

Similar here since late yesterday. I get a black screen, some startup-programs start. I even seem to be able to switch betweeen my all black desktoos.
Netbook-plasma I haven't tried yet.

Funny, this is how the cube looks after the crash:

No, I haven't too. Tried a while ago but maybe it wasn't accessibble by then. Later on everything was smooth again after an d-u. I will give it another try.

I reverted the installation of Santa's udisk2 kdelibs5 etc. packages and still I have the black desktop.

Excluding the files from the udisk2 repo these are the files I have updated today - something in there causes the crash: http://pastebin.com/PRMHTBVv

The nvidia driver is from experimental.

I did the update with santas new repo now.

Inserting CDs/DVDs orSticks is regognised here (still).

The bad thing is plasma-desktop still here stays completely black and crashes when restarting it via an xterm. So this is somethng just recently introduced.

netbook-plasma works here too so I could test the handling of CDS/DVDs/Sticks with that.

Did you try with another user? The strange thing is the crash only happens with my main user. I am trying to figure out what are the differences. Maybe it is some incompatible plasmoid...

Plasma crashes here too since yesterday evening.
I can confirm that it works with a fresh user.

musca

Hello,
the configuration of your user seems to be faulty.

plasma looks for these files in ~/.kde/share/config/ :
 plasma-desktop-appletsrc
 plasma-desktoprc
 plasmarc

I suggest to move the first out of this directory:
$ mv ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-desktop-appletsrc ~/plasma-desktop-appletsrc.defect

The configfile will be generated at next start.

ReinerS

Well I'll give it a try when starting kde next time, however all with the same faulty configuration just since yesterday ?
Rather strange (again)  :?

Also I will create another user for trying that too.

I have renamed plasma-desktop-appletsrc and plasma-desktop doesn't crash anymore. I re-created my whole desktop layouts and it still does not crash. What I did not add are the rss/news widgets and my todo widget...

The CPU usage now is 10% higher than in my former working configuration...

Other issue now: the shelves in the panel don't work anymore. They can e.g. show the favorites, but they cannot show any application category. When I choose an application category the tooltip of the shelf stays blank and the shelf is empty... :(

Hello, I didn't experience this issue. Please provide the *rc files which are causing the problem so it could be reproduced in any computer.

bad_aptitude

Is it possible this is the same issue as seen on the Aptosid forum?
http://aptosid.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=2649
if so the problem may be with hplip.

This is the plasma-desktop-appletsrc that caused the crash: http://spacepenguin.de/unsorted/plasma-desktop-appletsrc-out-of-order-20131013
