PDF thumbnails and longer icon titles on KDE desktop

Hi all,

getting envious that a system like osx automatically shows pdf thumbnails of pdf within the filesystem or shown on desktop, I googled around to find that I had to install the package kdegraphics-thumnailers.

After doing that, I enabled the PDF and PS thumbnails under dolphin, result: pretty nothing!
What am I missing here?

More, since the launch of KDE 4.6 or 4.7 (don't remember well which one) I saw that there was another feature migrated from osx, which was enabling longer icon titles on desktop by automatically reducing their font size instead of truncating them. I never found a knob to activate this. Somebody does?

in dolphin you have to set a hook - "preferences", dolphin, general > previews (pdf, dvi...)

actually that's exactly what i have done, without any result.
this is what is puzzilng me....
