hi everyone! :)

I would know if there is a way to update an .iso, to directly install the updated version?

I want to install siduction in a computer's friend, but I would install it already updated, with localization and maybe some software added. is it possible? ;)

thank you!

dibl

Our friend piper once taught me how to use pyfll to build a custom aptosid ISO, using a current kernel, whichever DE I wanted, and selected current packages, and I wrote out the procedure as I learned it, for future use.  But I only used it a couple of times -- I have good Internet service (for an American ....) and just haven't needed to do that again.  I would be happy to share the procedure, but I don't know if it still works like it did in 2010.

@piper ? ? ?

you could try to post your procedure, maybe it's adaptable to current iso...

it was to start from the iso, or from the installed system?

piper

Hi dibl, building has changed dramatically over the years, the way you were taught will not work anymore.

It is more organized, and I think easier, but, I didn't feel that way at first ;).

The OP sounds like he wants a remaster, which we don't do.

Huh -- well, that's kind of the story of my life with technology ... the stuff I knew 5 years ago is worthless today.  With human nature, it all remains the same as I learned it many years ago, so that is all good!   ;D

something like that... it is not possible?

or create a persistent usb...

ReinerS

Persistent usb, maybe with some limitations (i.e. kernel),  is possible.

I have done this several times before to have packages that I need at hand when having no internet-connection on boot-up.

The procedure to create this is included in the siduction-installer and also within an standalone-program (have a look at package install-usb-gui)

thank you, but it doesn't work.
it doesn't find a file in the folder "/tmp/.xxxx"

ReinerS

hmm, never had this.
I could do apt-get updates, install packages without problems.
But I have to admit this was some months ago.

Maybe I have to give it a new try to see if something changed.

I can't start "install-usb-gui":

$ install-usb-gui.bash

it's a fat32 usb key...
tryed siduction 2013-2014, with and without persistent option.  :-[

Format it to ext2 and try again

I haven't used this in ages, so I am not sure how "up to date" this is but you can try

http://manual.siduction.org/hd-install-opts#usb-hd

and look for the

fromiso and persist on bootable USB-sticks/SD/flash-cards

section

done with ext2, always same error:

(impossible find /tm/.xxxxx, start bash. check profile settings)

ReinerS

Did you try it within an pure console or within an terminal-console within X ?

It should be run within X, and there should be a link on the desktop (if I remember it right) and also within the menue, probably under System.

Also I would suggest at, least with the 2013 releases, to make an apt-get update and the install the newest install-usb.gui via apt-get install install-usb-gui. I remember that there had been issuses and the newsest should be used.

I tryed with gui (menu-system), and from konsole.

I have latest version, 0.3.20.

I'm trying from another computer, it started to install it (it has required root password), then a message appeared: "grub-install failed, root-directory=/tmp/install.usb.xxxxx, device /dev/sdb STOP".  ???

ReinerS

I just installed in onto my box.
When calling install-usb-gui.bash, here the window for the gui comes up and complains (in my case correct as I didn't prepare an usb-stick).
Do you get that far at all?
