After upgrading to systemd 204-11 in todays dist-upgrade your system will refuse to boot, because initrd messes up. your error will be something like
QuoteALERT! /dev/disk/by_uuid/ does not exist. Dropping to a shell

If you run into this, run udevadm trigger and hit CTL-D when done to fix it. There is a bugreport

Thank you very much for your quick work-around, Devil!

I ran into this bug half an hour ago, but now in can use my computer again. I am looking forward to the following DU's, which will surely solve the problem.

Greetings,

Right, 204-12 (unstable) and 208-3 (experimental) were uploaded with a fix and should make it into the next mirror sync

Just an FYI - This happened to me last night.  Now, I'm NOT saying in any way, that this is a solution, but CTRL-ALT-DEL rebooted the machine, and, from what I can see, no ill effects.

apt-cache policy systemd
systemd:
  Installed: 204-11
  Candidate: 204-11
  Version table:
     208-2 0
          1 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ experimental/main amd64 Packages
*** 204-11 0
        500 http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     204-5.2 0
        500 ftp://ftp.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/siduction/fixes/ unstable/main amd64 Packages

Any advice to check to see if anything is amiss?  I may just have lucked out.  The logs (journalctl & messages) show the errors during boot after dist-upgrade, then, show normal boot after c-a-d.

systemd  204-12 is the fixed version, not 204-11.

Goineasy,

important is the udev-version, that is where the actual breakage happened. On my notebook I just did a apt install -t experimental systemd libsystemd-journal0 libsystemd-login0 and missed out on udev. So that booted fine. On my workstation I just did the normal dist-upgrade and that got borked because udev was upgraded with the rest.

I just pulled in 204-12 with a dist-upgrade, so, we can set an all clear.  I certainly dodged a bullet with this one.  Heh, it's why Sid is exciting.

With todays DU (containing systemd 204-12) everything is back to normal here.

Hello,

systemd 204-12 and 204-14 are doing fine. I'll mark the theme as solved.
