I did it several times over the last years after stetting up a new computer. I never needed more then an hour or so. This time, today, I spent seven hours for resolving a problem while installing dovecot (there seems to be a bug with the ssl path in the config). And then I was unable to mirror my mails to the new computer using dsync (which was an one liner).
I fetch my mails using "fetchmail" via POP3 and use exim4 as MTA. Locally I use dovecot-imapd for deliviring the mails to my clients which use imap only.

So, if you have mirrored imap mails between computers in your LAN using dsync, please give a comprehensive description (under the assumption <user> and local <mailuser> are the same with identical p/w. Please don't tell me what's written in the manpages or whatever wiki. Simply tell me what you *successfully* did, if you did.

I am about to throw something through the window, which will create me even more problems ...
Ok, you can't code, but you still might be able to write a bug report for Debian's sake
