systemD is an init system specialized for Linux. The only thingy missing from the Linux kernel special for systemD is kdbus, which presumably will reach the mainline in a few weeks. Hopefully the init mechanic provided by systemD will then be changed from internal special systemD units to transparent and open for every one to configure and filesystem based.
