No shutdown or reboot after DU (solved)
« on: 2020/04/21, 12:05:54 »
It looks like a post upgrade  kernel issue so I  have now posted it here in the right section

After upgrade to  5.6.4 towo 2 and later 5.6.5 towo 1    shutdown and reboot doesn't work either from KDE  or terminal but all works as it should with 5.6.4 towo 1

Code: [Select]
inxi -a
CPU: Quad Core AMD Ryzen 5 2400G with Radeon Vega Graphics (-MT MCP-) speed/min/max: 1422/1600/3600 MHz
Kernel: 5.6.5-towo.1-siduction-amd64 x86_64 Up: 3h 02m Mem: 3309.0/6947.7 MiB (47.6%) Storage: 1.34 TiB (28.4% used)
Procs: 242 Shell: bash 5.0.16 inxi: 3.0.38

Well, I created a new $user.
Then I run some tests!

I can shutdown/poweroff or reboot the system out of kde (click) and also from the "konsole" with systemctl reboot and systemctl poweroff , so no problem at all!

Maybe it is related to your cpu?

Code: [Select]
~$ inxi -SCGx
System:    Host: hhl Kernel: 5.6.5-towo.1-siduction-amd64 x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 9.3.0 Desktop: KDE Plasma 5.18.4

How did you upgrade?

Did you run "apt full-upgrade / apt-get dist-upgrade"?
Or did you a save upgrade with "apt upgrade / apt-get upgrade"?

Same way as normal (for years) wajig update wajig distupgrade  I use wajig as it allows wajig new ( apt doesn't) and shows all new changes to repro. I don't think the way I upgrades makes any difference. Grub was also upgraded recently and a bit of searching suggest that may be an issue but I think it is only with my CPU as nobody else seems to have a problem.

Mh, can not tell you, don't know that.

But is "wajig new" not the same as "apt list --upgradable", after running "apt update"?

The only thing I have to mention is, that we are working with debian unstable!
I don't know how wajig can handle that.

Okay, apart from that, did you try the commands as root?

Ps.: What does the log files telling you, journalctl and so on!?

I have 2 Ryzen systems, both have no problem with shutdown or reboot.

wajig is just a wrapper for apt. the new command shows what is new in the repro not what is upgradable, you can also see this in Synaptic but I normally just use terminal, as far as I know there is no apt command for this, I actually asked this on this forum a few year back

wajig has been around a couple of decades ;)
I used to use it, I don't anymore, but it is a nice front end.
