LMDE worked perfectly on this machine.

As mentioned before I tried the same usb on a HP mini and installer worked. I did not test su or sux but i would assume it would work as the installer started.

This must be a hardware issue then.

i did not mean that the hardware is broken, but there seems to be some kind of a constellation that triggers this issue on the siduction xfce iso...   btw, did you try siduction KDE version?

maybe the devs can help us out here... what kind of information is necessary to track down the cause of this problem?

I have the same problem in a Toshiba A660 with xfce too. I need 'firmware-realtek' but is completly impossible to install it because no root command works: su, sux, gksu and root-terminal.

melmarker

try a live iso - sudo su works - without sudo su there is no installation. if you are in live, chroot the system and repair it.

Maybe it's a good idea to use one of our irc channels - the forum is not the best place for online support.

Thanks melmarker, but the problem is in the live version. I can't install because all root programs remain frozen and don't do their function.

You should really come to IRC with this. That would be helpful for us also, to see what the issue is here. Root works fine on Live-ISO here.

I downloaded again the iso and checked the checksum. then, I created the usb drive with 'dd' as they suggested on irc, but the problem persists. I tested with xfce and gnome, and I don't know where I should look to find the problem which prevents the operation of sux, sudo, su and su-to-root in the liveCD.
Any suggestion?

Does Alt-F2 bring up the "run" dialog?  Can you "gksu terminal"?  (I don't know what the name of the gnome terminal is.)

It would be interesting to learn whether you have the same problem with a KDE or LXDE ISO image.  I realize you want XFCE, but it's difficult to know whether the problem is with the XFCE ISO image, the DE, or something else (hardware/firmware items).

Hello @dibl, I tried with Gnome, Xfce and Rqt. Gnome and Xfce had the problem, but rqt worked perfectly.
I'm thinking to do a instalation with rqt and then remove it and install xfce desktop, but I prefer to try a clean instalation of xfce if it's possible

If you can install NoX, then you can go on IRC and get one of the devs to help you install the needed X and Xfce packages, and configure your login manager.

I really appreciate your help! I don't know if do it ir wait to the next release.

I would try installing NoX, then run d-u, which will be a big one since the last ISO was in May or June.  After that is done, with guidance from the devs on IRC, it should not be a huge project to install X, Xfce, and a login manager and get it configured as you want.

You've convinced me. I hope to have a quiet afternoon this week to do it.
Thank you!

ajavlbp, did you see devils suggestion to come to IRC for support? i second this idea, because this way you could help tracking down the issue.
